How about a trip to The Chrysler Mall?

chrysler_hq

No, you’re not looking at shopping mall but rather Chrysler’s corporate headquarters in Auburn Hills Michigan. The similarities between a mall are no accident though. BusinessWeek published an article two weeks ago listing and talking about Chrysler’s various assets in anticipation of the company filling for bankruptcy. The most various bit was on the second page:

“The Chrysler headquarters building is a spectacular sight from I-75 in Michigan. But the Auburn Hills edifice and its sprawling campus sit in the middle of one of the most economically depressed areas in the country. When the building was erected in the early 1990s, it was designed so it could be repurposed into a shopping mall without too much modification if the perennially troubled Chrysler should go out of business. But there is no interest in another shopping mall in a commercial corridor where unemployment and foreclosure rates are both above 20%, and one of the best-performing malls in the state, The Somerset Collection, sits 15 minutes away in Troy, Mich.”

Totally looks like a mall to me. Its pretty intresting to think that Chrysler had enough foresight to design their headquarters so that it could be sold as a mall. Too bad they didn’t have that same foresight when it came to making cars. Hopefully fiat can do something with the brand considering their line-up of cars in Europe isn’t too shaby.

I heard about this on NPR last week. The audio can be found at Wait Wait…Don’t tell me!

Weekly Inspiration #1

What better way to start the week than to be overloaded with inspiration and general awesomeness. This will be the first of weekly blog posts in which I’ll be posting anything and everything that is cool that I’ve found during the week from around the interwebz. Its my gift to you (plus blogging is hard work and this is my cop-out). Atleast I’m honest right?

Cool short for Lonesome Enterprises

I’ve always been a fan of photo-manipulations and the combination of photography and illustration. These are from Italian illustrator Alberto Seveso. More of his work Here and Here.

20 hours after completing the piece, a neighbor saw someone stealing the coins. She called the police who stopped the person and then decided that the best way to protect the intallation was to swept it all up into bags and hold it at the station.
